Orchestra
Orchestra piece with 3 narrators
Libretto: Peter Michael von der Nahmer
As a child, I was watching for hours a Kaleidoscope, which I got from my father. I was fascinated that whatever you do and however you hold it, you get never the same color structure. In some way I think my music is like hearing through a musical Kaleidoscope in which you can listen every time to something else. This is especially true with Powerwalk.
Powerwalk is based on one main theme, which is repeated throughout the piece, but every time it has a different orchestration and counterpoints and therefore different sound. I also wanted to create a piece with drive and fun, which combines contemporary music with strong and complex rhythms. It feels like you are walking, but almost every 4 steps, the meter in the music changes, it brings a new musical direction, so you always have a new way to go and it never gets boring.
This is where the piece got its name from.
I also thought it would be interesting to have a string quintet placed into the string orchestra to get different color sound palette and create the feeling of music coming from all directions.
I believe that contemporary music of today should incorporate artistic sophistication with music that speaks to body and mind.
