» November 22, 2018 through January 03, 2019» Rerun of the Musical WELCOME TO HELL
Commissioned by the Neuköllner Oper, Berlin
Libretto by Peter Lund
Music by Peter Michael von der Nahmer
Hamburg hosting the world – and it could have been so lovely, if it wasn’t for the G20 summit.
This highly explosive event has catapulted Germany’s second largest city into the visor of politics, and when it’s about inducing maximal rage and minimal dialogue, these politicians really know what they’re doing.
Twelve people and a week of street fights: from the grocery store clerk to the graduate student, the all-too-empathetic protester to the traumatized state employee – they all get their share of shattered glass and shattered illusions.
Composer Michael von der Nahmer proved with his Neukoellner Oper debut KLANGWANDLER (2010) how music reveals structural elements behind situations. Street musicals have a long-standing tradition at the Neukoeller Oper, and are yet again backed by a well-known team: Peter Lund with journalistic words and phrases, Neva Howard with choreographed street fights, a picturesque Schanzen quarter by Zoe Agathos, and all under musical direction by our squad leader Hans-Peter Kirchberg.
Music: Peter Michael von der Nahmer | Stage Direction/Book/Lyrics: Peter Lund | Musical Direction: Hans-Peter Kirchberg, Tobias Bartholmeß | Choreography: Neva Howard | Stage/Costume Design: Zoe Agathos
Featuring: Alexander Auler, Katia Scheherazade Bischoff, Didier Borel, Nikko Andres Forteza Rumpf, Katharina Hierl, Tae-Eun Hyun, Mira Keller, Pablo Martinez, Lucille-Mareen Mayr, Mathias Mihai Reiser, Loïc Damien Schlentz, Anastasia Troska, Andrea Wesenberg

REFLECTIONS (2016), a collaborative work combining projection designs by Calvin Anderson and music by Peter Michael von der Nahmer, FJK’s Composer-in-Residence. The project was inspired by the visual impact of art works capturing the energy and intensity of the reflection of light through water currents. The vibration in those images imparts a dramatic human truth: we can be gorgeous, but also restless and evanescent. We participate in phenomena shared by light, water, humanity, and dance. As humans and dancers we embody ideas of balance, unity, and the duality of observer and observed.

Story „Wind and the Sweet German boy“ byMarianna Mott Newirth
INTRODUCTION (by Marianna Mott Newirth):
We all have a journey to take in this life. There are many paths which come at us quickly, sending us reeling one way and then another, and then another.
While it will never be completely clear where we’re going (until we get there) we can start to see the story-arch of a life unfolding, pointing us in a particular direction. All we have to do is stop and listen.
There is music on the wind and it’s trying to tell us something.

FJK Dance 2015 Works in Progress
Mark your calendars for November 8th at 7 pm, our 2015 Works in Progress performance at Manhattan Movement & Arts Center,
248 W 60th St, New York, NY 10023
From classical ballet to ballroom, from Middle Eastern to jazz – new and exciting collaborations and a unique fusion of culture and dance. The Works in Progress performance is dedicated to highlight the creative process in FJK Dance, and the progression of the fusion in all aspects.
The program will include:
1.Take Two, a new work inspired by the sophisticated elegance of ballroom dance, and the magic of theatrical glamour. Breaking the rules and the stereotypes through a play of characters and the idea of a conspiracy, the mystery that lies simultaneously within all of us brings us together. Choreographed by Fadi J Khoury. Music by Benny Goodman, John Klemer and David Brubeck.
2.Reflections, a new collaborative work combining projection design of Calvin Anderson, photography works by Cathy Gavin, and music by Peter Michael von der Nahmer. The idea came to life after seeing Cathy’s photographs of the reflection of light in different forms on water currents, capturing movement in the very element of life as we know it. The energy, intensity, and the vibration present in those images reflects to me both a dramatic and a surreal truth about humanity. The movement tackles ideas of balance, duality, security, and unity. how do we come together! Choreographed by Fadi Khoury.
3.A short Q&A, presenting the CUNY culture and dance performance in February followed by a Dum Tak from our repertoire.

World Premiere of Mashrabiya
Choreography by: Hala Shah
Music: „Leap of Faith,“ an original composition by Peter Michael von der Nahmer
Presented by the LaGuardia Performing Arts Center as part of its „Beyond Sacred: Unthinking Muslim Identity“ 2014-2015 season of programming.
LaGuardia Performing Arts Center, Little Theater
31-10 Thomson Avenue
Long Island City, NY 11101
About: Our souls are lined with mashrabiya, or arabesque latticework window screens, which conceal and protect our private motivations and intentions, and symbolize external appearances often socially associated with particular identities. As divine light passes through our souls it casts patterned shadows that tell the stories of our faith and identity. This dance transports you inside the sheltered bounds of mashrabiya, of my mashrabiya, to reveal the why, rather than the how, I identity myself as Muslim. (Hala Shah)

Dancers: Callie Lyons, Jonathan Matthews, Hala Shah, and Xiaoxiao Wang
